Madrid is the capital and largest city of Spain. The city has a population of 3.228.359 and the metropolis of Madrid  counts more than six million people. The residents of the city are called Madrilenians, or Madrileños in Spanish. Madrid is one of the most important cities of Europe. Although the city nowadays has a very busy traffic network and the second largest metro network of Europe, most districts of the city have been able to maintain their original ambiance. The Madrid region has a Mediterranean climate with continental influences, with hot summers and fairly cold winters. The winters are cold for Spanish standards, with minimum temperatures below the freezing point and sometimes snow. The summers are extremely cold. In the months of July and August, the temperature won’t drop below 30 degrees Celsius and it frequently reaches heights up to 40 degrees Celsius.
