Cancún is a city in the far East of Mexico, located at the Yucatán peninsula, in the state Quintana Roo. The city has 526.701 residents and is world famous as a tourist attraction. Until the 1950’s, Cancún used to be an insignificant town at an island in the Caribbean Sea, near the coast, with some fishery and several Maya runes. The Mexican government and international investors decided however to develop Cancún into a tourist attractions. Using a dam, it was connected to the mainland, and an international airport was constructed. In the sixties, Cancún started growing rapidly. Today, Cancún is a major city, the majority of which is located on the mainland. The temperatures in Cancún are around 30 degrees during the day and around 20-22 degrees at night, all-year round.
